policy

National Bureau Gender Policy ; collaboration on several issues;

Coordination of the National Cedaw report for the Ministry of Internal

Member of the Technical Advisory Board for the Unifem-Suriname programme

NVB
participates in activities of CAFRA in Suriname
Networking
in the field of Economic Empowerment of Women

The Ministry of Education, the Association of Surinamese Producers,
the Association of Surinamese Constructors and the Ministry of Labour
have appointed representations in the Advisory Board for the NVB project
on Non- traditional Female Occupations
-
The Medical Mission and ProHealth have agreed to collaborate in a
health programme to be implemented in the Upper-Suriname river area
in 2000
-
The NVB has signed a contract with the IDB to play an intermediary
role in a low-cost housing programme to be implemented from 2003 on
-
Through the programmes which are being implemented there is a close
cooperation with several government and private institutions in the
economic field.
Networking
in the field of Institutional Strengthening of Women’s Groups
-
Pro Health assisted in the execution of a health programme in the
Amer-indian village of Pikin Saron
-
The Foundation Suriname Red Cross assisted in the training of community
women’s groups in first aid skills
-
networking with 14 women’s groups meeting every three months
-
the Peace Corps assists NVB in the institutional strengthening of
the women’s group of Pikin
Saron.

NVB was elected as a member for the Executive Committee for the Community
Development
Fund of Suriname, as part of the IDB-Surinamese government programmme
from 2000 – 2002
-
The NVB assisted several women’s and community organizations
in Paramaribo and districts and in abroad (island of Aruba) in organizing
training programmes in home gardening.
Networking
in the field of Women’s and Children’s Rights
-
Change of Inheritance Legislation and elimination of discrimination
against children born out of wedlock : Ministry of Justice; National
Assembly; several women’s organizations
-
Appointment of representatives of the Ministries of Justice and Police
and Education, the University and the Foundation Stop Violence Against
Women , in a Foundation for the Bureau for Women’s Rights, established
by the NVB in 2002
-
Establishment of a group of ‘women friendly jurors’ by
the NVB in order to support individual women in the search for their
rights and to assist the NVB Bureau for Women’s Rights in developing
and implementing a legal education programme for women and their families
Networking
in other areas:

Represented in the National Anti-Drugs Board, headed by the Ministry
of Health

Member of the National Steering Committee of the National UNDP-G.E.F/Small
Grants Programme (environmental issues) - Chair since 2002

Has acted as a member of the Technical Advisory Board of the UNIFEM-Suriname
Programme on Women and Sustainable Development in Suriname

Is part of a Civil Society Mechanism to advise on the IDB suriname
Programme.
